BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND EQUESTRIAN STUDIES
Situated in the heart of the thoroughbred county St Patrick’s is one of the most innovative venues for equestrian courses in Ireland and is uniquely the supplier of the widest range of equestrian skills and training. Having been established some 16 years ago initially offering three courses namely: Trainee Riding Instructor, Assistant Thoroughbred Trainer and Assistant Stud Management. In 1998, still the only course on these islands where you can train to become an equine nurse was established – our Equine Nursing Course.
The courses offer a good foundation in both equestrian, Business and IT skills enabling the student to seek out supervisory and administrative positions within and outside the equine sector. The list of employers who continue to recruit former students of the college reads like a veritable “who’s who” of the industry. All four courses have a common Business/IT and Equestrian core, taking place three days a week at the college. Special emphasis is placed on the dual skills element; this approach has been a hugh success. Depending on the student’s speciality, they spend two days a week at one of the twenty one equine outcentres attached to the college. These centres include; A.L. Moore, Peter McCreery, Ted Walsh, John Oxx, Rathasker, Oaklodge, Kildangan, Barouche Studs, Troytown, Anglesey Lodge, Somerton Lodge, Sycamore Lodge, Grey Abbey Equine Hospitals, Barrack Gate Veterinary Clinic, Ratoath Veterinary Clinic, Clinic Na gCapaill, Calliaghstown Riding Centre, Borohard Stables, Michael Halford, Kildare Veterinary Hospital, Lisadell Equine Hospital.
No other course in the country will offer the student the opportunity to obtain hands on skills in both the equestrian and I.T. sectors. The type of practical skills we offer cannot be matched by any other course. We want students to be able to do things for themselves, so that they may progress further towards their personal goal. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and our student’s employment record is remarkable. We provide an employment service to present and former students and the number of key positions occupied by our students’ bear’s testimony to our success in this regard.
The list of employers of former students includes the following: The Turf Club, Weatherby’s, The Irish Equine Centre, Coolmore Stud, Kildangan Stud, The Aga Khan, Rathasker Stud, John Oxx, Arthur Moore, Troytown Equine Hospital, Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital, Eddie Brennan Bloodstock, Shane Ryans’s Kilboy Estate, Yeomanstown Stud, Goffs, Somorton Lodge, Newtown Stud, Brian Grassick Bloodstock, Calliaghstown Riding Centre, Oak Lodge Stud, Barouche Stud, Derrinstown Stud, Rathbarry Stud, Willie Mullins, Jim Bolger, Michael Halford, Mouse Morris and many more.
