Letter from Principal 26/04/21

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

As you know by now we had 2 confirmed cases of Covid 19 last week and over the weekend students deemed by Public Health to be close contacts were tested. In the absence of those test results last night and as a precaution our 5th and 6th years had class from home today.

As a result of our experience over the last few days we now know that Public Health depend on families to make direct contact with the school should their son /daughter test positive for Covid 19. Please let us know as a matter of urgency if your son/daughter tests positive for Covid. We have set up a dedicated new school email, covid@phcol.ie and we ask you to screenshot and share test results with us as a matter of high importance.

Furthermore, if your son/daughter is unwell and has Covid 19 symptoms we ask you to keep them out of school and contact your GP to organise a Covid test. Under no circumstances should a student attend school while awaiting a Covid test.

Due to the current Public Health situation we are being impacted in terms of staff absences and in some cases teachers continue to work from home. We are doing our very best to ensure the continuity of teaching and learning in these circumstances and in the majority of cases classes are being taught by substitute teachers of the subject.

Our measures and protocols are to ensure we keep Covid 19 out of our school. Any positive cases so far have come from the community. Consequently we urge all families to ensure social circles are kept to a minimum and that young people do not congregate or socialise in groups. This is challenging but we ask you to hold firm and support us as so many of you have been doing since this began last March 2020.

A reminder to 6th year students that the LC 2021 Portal reopens tomorrow 27th at 12pm and closes on Friday 30th at 6pm. This will be the last opportunity to select exams and/or Accredited Grades, change subjects and/or levels. Our understanding is there will be no opportunity to make further changes after the 30th of April.

FInally, 5th and 6th year students, with the exception of those advised to restrict their movements, should return to in school teaching and learning tomorrow 27th of April as normal.

As ever, we thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation for which we are very grateful.

Kind regards,

Caroline Herity
