Dear Parent/ Guardian,
We have reached the point where we can take a welcome break from screens and hopefully students will be able to take a break and have a week of down time. We congratulate so many students who have engaged with online learning and worked really hard this term. We encourage participation in our February Fitness Challenge, all details on www.phcol.ie , as a great way to spend some of the time next week.
As part of the phased reopening of school buildings our ASD Outreach class will open on Monday 22nd of February. All other students will continue to work online. We hope the Leaving Certificate students will be next to return to in person tuition and we await details of that from the Department of Education and Skills.
As you know discussions are ongoing about the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate for 2021. We understand this is stressful for students but as we have said before, a way has to be found to assess all students fairly and allow them to move on to the next stage of work and learning. Whatever is put in place will have to be fair for all and the pathways will be there for students to move into further education, apprenticeships and the world of work. It is the current uncertainty that is so challenging for students and we urge them to avoid media and speculation which will only add to anxiety. As soon as we have factual information we will share it with you.
We have asked teachers not to set work for students over the break so they can have a chance to really switch off. Exam students may wish to work independently during the week.
Thank you again to those of you who have completed the parent survey on the website. We would encourage you to complete it if you have not done so already. The information really helps us as we plan for the remainder of this year and into the next.
A reminder again that all school supports may be accessed online and Brigid and Anna may be contacted in the school office on 045 897885 or info@phcol.ie
Please also check our website which is updated regularly
For now I hope you remain safe and well and wish you a restful weekend.
All good wishes,
Caroline Herity
Principal
