Letter from the Principal 05/02/21

5th of February 2021

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

I hope this finds you and your family well.

Thank you for your commitment to supporting your son/daughters learning and for helping us to make this work.

We have extremely high levels of attendance and engagement in online learning and we thank you for your efforts to support this.

In the absence of immediate guidance we will continue with online teaching and learning up to next Friday when we will have Mid Term break. At that point a break from screen time will be welcome for all.

We are hopeful there will be guidance issued by the Department of Education regarding the Junior and Leaving Certificate before mid term. We acknowledge the uncertainty is adding to student anxiety and at this point we would all welcome some decisions and certainty.

As soon as we receive information we will share it with you.

Our Guidance teachers are providing ongoing support for students and we have additional counselling hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact the year head or the school office at info@phcol.ie or 045 897885 if this would benefit your son/daughter.

Our new website is continuously updated so please check in regularly to keep up to date.

Links to the subject choice presentation for students going to 5th year and the LCA presentation may be viewed there. We have requested that students return their subject choice and LCA applications by this evening please.

The parent survey is still open on our website. Many thanks to those who have responded. We would urge you to take a few moments to complete it if you have not already done so. Your voice is important to us and we welcome your input as we continuously plan for improvement. Please take a few minutes to follow the link and complete the survey.

Our February Fitness Virtual Challenge has been taken on by many staff, students and their families. It is not too late to sign up and the training plans can be accessed on the website.

This initiative is as much for mental health as it is for physical health and we urge everyone to get involved.

There is also a ‘ Big Cook Off’ competition where students and teachers are encouraged to cook their favourite takeaway meal or snack with a healthy twist. Please see details on the website also.

For now I hope you stay safe and well.

All good wishes,

Caroline Herity
