Piper's Hill College

Letter from the Principal 05/03/2021

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I hope this email finds you and your family well.

As you know we are in the second stage of the phased reopening of school buildings and we are delighted to have our ASD Outreach students and our 6th years students back in the building for face to face teaching and learning.

Students seem happy to be back and are being compliant with the Health and Safety measures in place to keep us all as safe as possible.

All updates regarding LC 2021 will be communicated directly to 6th years and their parents as we receive them.

For now, we remind you that the registration portal will open next week, date to be confirmed, it will remain open for approximately one week. Exam number, date of birth and PPS will be required in order to register. We recommend all 6th years register for Accredited Grades at least. They will also confirm their LC subjects and levels. Students taking additional subjects outside school should ensure they are entered at this point. The portal will reopen at the end of April and entries can be reviewed then if necessary.

All going well, 5th year students are due to return on Monday 15th of March.

All returning year groups are required to fill a Return to School Form which we will send out a few days before the year group is due to return. This form asks you as parents/ guardians to confirm your child has no symptoms of Covid 19, has not been told to restrict their movements and has not recently returned from another country.

As students return to the building we remind you that under no circumstances should a student attend school if they are feeling unwell, restricting their movements or have been out of the country. Now that we have the school open we want to keep it open and it is really important we all do our best to keep Covid 19 out of Piper’s Hill College.

Just to let you know that for health reasons we have a number of staff who continue to work fully from home during this phased period of reopening. What this means for your son/daughter is that while they may be in school, their teacher may be teaching them from home. We have a teacher in the classroom with the students for supervision and support where this occurs. We have taken on 2 additional substitute teachers this month to enable us to put this arrangement in place. This only affects 5th and 6th year students, everything should remain the same for students who continue to learn from home.

We encourage students to check in on our website as Mr McGarvey has started online Gaelic coaching. Videos showcasing skills will be posted on the website weekly and we encourage junior students to participate.

Ms Hill will be hosting a cook-a-long with first year students next Wednesday the 10th from 11.30am to 1pm and we encourage everyone to get involved.

We also have a Wellbeing Day planned for the 24th of March so keep an eye on our website, social media and Google Classrooms for further information.

1st Years to TY have 3 more weeks of online learning ahead before the Easter holidays and then hopefully, will return to school. We understand it can be challenging to keep up the engagement from a distance but we are encouraging everyone to do their very best over the next few weeks. Work with your teachers, ensure you attend online classes, try to be as up to date as possible with school work so that the return to in school teaching and learning will be as seamless as possible.

Please remember all of our in school supports are available online and we can be contacted at info@phcol.ie and 045 897885 if we can help in any way.

All good wishes,

Caroline Herity,
