Letter from the Principal 12/03/2021

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I hope this finds you and your family well.

It is hard to believe that one year ago today the Taoiseach announced the schools would close for two weeks due to Covid 19. Very few would have predicted the situation would still be ongoing or that we would be attempting to reopen our schools for a second time.

Thankfully we have had two really good weeks with the 6th years back in the building and we are looking forward to seeing the 5th year students on Monday.

We held an assembly earlier today with 5th years to go through the basic health and safety measures that must be observed as we continue to reopen as safely as possible. We will share the notes from the assembly with the parents of all 5th years and we would ask you to talk through the contents with your young person.

All returning 5th years should submit a Return to School Form confirming they have no symptoms of Covid 19, are not restricting their movements and have not been out of the country in the past 14 days. The safe and responsible actions of our senior students over the next two weeks will help to ensure the rest of our school community can return to in school teaching and learning after Easter on the 12th of April.

The school canteen will reopen on Monday and there will be breakfast available to all students from 8.20am. School buses are also running normally.

Please note that the closing date for applications for school transport is 30/4/21. Please consult the Bus Eireann website for further details www.buseireann.ie and go to the school transport section.

For those students who continue to learn from home we encourage you to put in your best effort between now and Easter. Your Zoom lessons will continue and all work will be posted on Google Classroom for you.

First year students had a wonderful morning online with Ms Hill on Wednesday. It was great to see so many talented students taking part in the Bake Along.

Mr Mc Garvey is continuing to post weekly videos on the website for those wishing to improve their Gaelic skills , we encourage students to participate. It is a good opportunity to increase skills, get exercise and fresh air.

A reminder that Monday the 15th is Subject Choice evening for our incoming 1st years. An invitation to the webinar has been sent to all parents. If you have a son or daughter enrolled for September please join us at 7pm on Monday evening. If you have not received a link to the webinar please contact the school at info@phcol.ie or 045897885.

The school will be closed on Wednesday next as we celebrate our National holiday. Again we encourage all students to avoid congregating in groups or meeting in any setting that could potentially cause the spread of Covid 19. We recognise it is difficult to ask young people to limit their social interactions but if we are to continue to reopen society as safely as possible, the cooperation of everyone is essential at this time.

In the meantime, I hope you all remain safe, happy and well.

All good wishes,

Caroline Herity
