Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As we reach the end of our first week of online learning may I thank your ongoing support and thank students for their hard work and engagement throughout the week.
We have asked teachers to schedule their classes for each week so that students can write them into their school journals. As you will have seen this week, the learning is blended and there will be a mixture of live classes, pre recorded classes and instances of work set on Google classroom for students to work on. This should enable students to be organised and hopefully manage their learning independently.
As with any plan or policy it is only when implemented that the need for improvements and modifications arise. We have been working to ensure our live Zoom classes are as secure as possible. Consequently we are asking that all students register individually for Zoom with their phcol email address by Monday. The instructions for how to do this are posted on Google Classroom and on our website.
Students will only be admitted to live Zoom classes via their phcol email, with their camera on and correct name displayed. If the student has not registered with Zoom using the phcol email they will not be admitted to the class.
The basics of appropriate dress and behaviour must be maintained and the school Code of Behaviour applies at all times.
Please note that our Acceptable Use Policy applies to all online learning.
As mentioned last week, we want to support students in every way possible during this time of online learning. Please contact us if you wish to access any of the supports in the school- Career Guidance, Counselling, Check and Connect, Subject Support, Year Head support, Home School Liaison and Behaviour for Learning.
As of now Mock Exams and TY work experience have been postponed to after Mid Term Break. The Assessment for incoming 1st years has also been postponed. We will keep the calendar on our website updated and will let you know as soon as we are in a position to reschedule events.
Subject and Course Choice for students moving to Senior Cycle begins online next week. All information regarding events and meetings will be on the website, notified through Google Classroom and via email.
If you need to contact the school for any reason Brigid and Anna may be contacted at 045 897885 or info@phcol.ie.
Our aim is to return to in school teaching and learning as soon as it is considered safe to do so. Please encourage your young people to stay home, limit social contacts and follow all Public Health advice. The actions of each person over the next few weeks will determine how quickly school buildings can re-open. So, to all of our students we ask you to stay home and stay safe.
Kind regards,
Caroline Herity
Principal
