The Role of the HSCL Teacher
The Home School Community Liaison teacher is the link person between the school and home. The coordinator works to support parents and guardians to support their child on their journey through school. The HSCL also works with community agencies such as CAMHS, Kildare Youth Services, Foroige, Co Kildare Leader Partnership, Naas Library, SVP to name but a few. Communication with parents and guardians is through home visits, email, text, phone calls, in-school meetings, website, Parents Association facebook page and twitter. The HSCL teacher also works with the School Completion Programme Coordinator and the school’s BFL teacher on programmes for students in school.
The HSCL supports the transition from primary to secondary school by visiting feeder primary schools to meet with students and teachers, runs a transition programme to support sixth class students and links with parents to offer assistance with this important step on their child’s educational journey. Attendance and retention in school are also key aspects of the role of the HSCL teacher.
The HSCL teacher is Orla Rowan and she may be contacted on 087-0950451 or hscl@phcol.ie
